50th Anniversary of Priesting

50th Anniversary of Priesting

This Petertide Lyn Phillips, one of our retired clergy, has celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

After his Ordination as a priest at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff in 1972, Lyn served curacies in the Merthyr Valley and Cardiff before moving to Wolverhampton as a team vicar in 1977. In 1981 he was appointed full-time chaplain at Charing Cross Hospital and Medical School where he remained for 10 years. By way of a complete change, he spent a few years as Anglican chaplain in Milan and Genoa before returning to London to join the staff of Hampstead Parish Church and take up a post as chaplain to the Marie Curie Eden Hall Hospice. In 2000 he became vicar of St.Augustine’s, Whitton in Twickenham, retiring to Scotland in 2009 and coming to rest in Berwick in 2011 to join other retired clerics.

We’ve also found out that Frank Holt has just celebrated the 40th anniversary of his priesting. It has been a real blessing to us all that Lyn and Frank’s journeys led them to Berwick. We send them our very best wishes and look forward to many more years of their ministry amongst us. We’re very lucky to have such a wealth of experienced priests in the parish.
